Bart Tomlin

Painting for me is a combination of catharsis, therapy, and introspection. I paint out of (as Kandinsky said) an "inner necessity." I learn about myself when I paint.

I usually don't do any preliminary work for a painting. I just start, letting my hands work freely, naturally and keeping my mind on composition. Color decisions happen somewhere between intent and instinct. In this manner, my mind, heart, and soul communicate. I paint for my health. I have to.
