Jenifer Padilla
One look at Jenifer Padilla's paintings is all it takes to see food in a different light. Countless hours spent in her Cuban grandmother's kitchen in Miami as well as years working as a cook serve as inspiration for a world where pears have personality and carrots have character. This North Carolina native also brings a touch of the city to the table. Through layers of acrylic, graphite and pastels, urban influences such as mass transit and graffiti are blended into her work. Still life, her personal sketches and, photos are the starting point for these culinary creations, although her most recent models have been selected from her own garden. According to Jenifer, these edible, artistic martyrs are not only ideal for painting, they also make for a great snack after a long day in front of the canvas.
