Jill Rossi
Common Experience, Uncommon Objects.
Strong clean lines, simplicity, and character are the earmarks of this North
Carolina native’s
work. Her designs are versatile and broad ranging, spanning the disciplines
of furniture, accessory, and interior design to fine art and sculpture. Constructed
in a variety of media, the focus of her work explores the emotional connection
between people and the objects they welcome into their lives. She views the
objects she creates not as inanimate compilations of materials, but as icons
of common experience with personalities that express humor, simplicity, honesty,
beauty, and irony. By enlisting objects that radiate these qualities,
she believes we can foster personal cultures that are positive and nurturing. Through
her work, she hopes to offer others the opportunity to create this kind of
positive personal culture into their own lives.
Jill’s formal training began at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro,
where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design. After
practicing design for several years at some of the leading architecture firms
in Raleigh, she went on to complete her Master’s of Fine Arts in Furniture
Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2006, Jill returned to
North Carolina to establish her own design practice specializing in custom designed
furniture, art and interiors. Today, Jill divides her time between her
studio practice, teaching, and spending time with her family and friends.
